Throughout the U.S., farmers are working with food and agriculture companies, policymakers and other stakeholders more than ever before to collaborate on sustainable agriculture practices. A free event planned Aug. 22 at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center’s AT&T Auditorium in St. Louis will celebrate those accomplishments and highlight ongoing conservation efforts.

The event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. and is jointly hosted by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). Producers should RSVP online to attend.

Speakers and sessions at the event will include:

  • Opening remarks from NCGA CEO Chris Novak
  • Panel discussion hosted by EDF’s Suzy Friedman, senior director of sustainable agriculture, with Kraig Westerbeek, vice president of environment and support operations at Smithfield Foods; Tim Richter, farmer and partner at Saratoga Partnership; and Jason Jenkins, monarch and pollinator coordinator at Missourians for Monarchs.
  • Condensed sneak preview of the Discovery Channel documentary “Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman.” The movie is based on the book by Miriam Horn, who produced the film and will be on-hand for a Q-and-A session.
