When Should I Give Up on Corn-on-Corn?

Ken Ferries answers a farmer’s question in Corn College TV Episode 7.

A farmer posed the question, “when should I give up on my corn-on-corn fields”

In episode 7 of Corn College TV Season 2, Farm Journal Field Agronomist Ken Ferrie tackles this question.
“You should expect to have more trouble with corn after corn in a dry year,” he says. “If you are continually battling ear molds, stalk rots, Goss’s Wilt, you may want to change your rotation.”
Your decision comes down to profit and management.
“If you switch to soybeans it will reduce your disease pressure in corn and will led to an increase of what you’re used to for soybean yields,” he says. “And in 2011, the best yields were in corn on corn and the worst yields were in corn on corn.”
He says it depends on what challenges you’re facing.
