You can feel the excitement of harvest time on farms as combines roll out of the shed, yield monitors beep and supper is a quick handoff in the field. Growers pay attention not only to the number of bushels going into the grain cart but also to how their weed control program performed in the back half of the season.
“Retailers and growers are pleased with the postemergence knockdown, residual control, application flexibility and mixing with Kyro herbicide,” said Joe Bolte, market development specialist with Corteva Agriscience.
Kyro® herbicide is the first corn herbicide to combine topramezone, encapsulated acetochlor and clopyralid. This unique postemergence premix adds a residual punch to a grower’s corn herbicide program and can be applied to conventional corn, traited corn, seed corn and popcorn.
If growers notice weed escapes during harvest, they may be concerned about potential weed resistance. With three active ingredients, Kyro herbicide helps manage and reduce weed resistance, providing unmatched grass and broadleaf weed control. Bolte said the topramezone in Kyro herbicide helps effectively control waterhemp, while the clopyralid manages many large-seeded broadleaves. The encapsulated acetochlor provides residual protection of grasses as well as waterhemp and Palmer amaranth. This gives growers a strong finish to their weed control program.
“The wide postemergence application window for Kyro herbicide gave growers flexibility this season,” said Bolte, whose territory includes Kansas and Missouri. “This was critical with the wet spring/early summer many parts of my geography experienced during the postemergence application window. This allowed many growers and retailers to have time to get across their acres without having to switch products.”
When it’s time for a postemergence application, crops can be in critical growth stages. Growers don’t want to use herbicides that could injure the crop, stunt growth or affect yield potential. Kyro herbicide offers growers great crop safety and flexibility with a wide application window. Topramezone — although tough on weeds — is gentle on corn that’s deeper into the season. Encapsulated acetochlor also protects the corn by rolling off the leaf to the soil to provide a strong residual that keeps weeds from emerging.
No two seasons are the same, as any grower knows. One year may go smoothly with timely herbicide applications, and the next may be one challenge after the other with herbicide applications delayed. Corteva Agriscience Market Development Specialist Jeff Bode likes the flexibility Kyro herbicide gives growers to customize their weed control program.
With an application window from postemergence to 24-inch-tall corn, Kyro herbicide gives growers flexibility to work around Mother Nature’s unpredictability. Kyro also knocks down more than 60 broadleaves and grasses so corn can thrive while weeds wither.
“Kyro herbicide can follow many preemergence corn herbicide programs,” Bode said. “It’s an approved tank-mix partner for Enlist One herbicide, and I used the combination in field demonstrations this summer and observed excellent crop safety and weed control.”
Bolte observed similar results in field trials he conducted.
“We saw excellent weed control and crop safety across a wide variety of conditions,” Bolte said. “Most of these trials were conducted in areas with heavy weed pressure.”
Starting in the second half of 2026, retailers can stock Kyro herbicide in bulk to help them save floor space and maximize the efficiency of their loadout facilities.
As plans for next season are made, retailers and growers should talk to their Corteva Agriscience representatives, who can help with additional information about postemergence weed control and Kyro herbicide.
