$200 Double Your Money Winner!

Taylor Tesch
West Fargo, ND

What used to take 20 minutes now takes a mere five minutes, thanks to Taylor Tesch’s easy-to-handle swing hopper protector. At the end of a long day, Tesch says he would spend up to 40 minutes just covering up the swing augers. It took Taylor less than an hour to turn his timesaver into a reality. Taylor farms with his father-in-law, Terry Arnhalt, and they raise corn and soybeans.

Swing Hopper Weather Protector

Instead of messing with tarps, bungee straps and bricks, I came up with a better idea to cover up the swing hopper when not in use during harvest. I took an old 1,500-gal. water tank and cut it in half. Then I cut out a U-shaped section in the partial water tank so it would slide right over the auger tube. I added four handles to make it easier to maneuver the hopper cover.

Step Up to Taller Tractors

As tractors have become bigger and taller through the years, reaching the fuel tank has become more of a challenge. To give me a boost, I added a step using expanded metal to ensure I don’t slip. I welded the step to a flat piece of iron and bolted the unit to the tractor weight bracket.

Back Saver

Moving 250-lb. cattle lick tubs is hard on the back. To make a tub roller, start with a 1¼"x1¼"-wide piece of angle iron that’s 40" long. Drill a hole 6" from the end and attach a bent ¾" carriage bolt with two nuts and tighten. To use, hook the lip of the tub with the carriage bolt, tilt the tub and roll it where you want.
