Aflatoxin Adding to Uncertain Outlook for Cash Corn Market

Pro Farmer Members from Indiana to Nebraska tell us they’ve had loads of corn rejected due to aflatoxin. And it’s not just on low-yielding corn that was most-severely stressed by this summer’s heat and drought. So far this isn’t a huge problem, but it is something we must watch in the weeks ahead.

Perspective: Aflatoxin is normally a regional issue. This year, reports of aflatoxin are coming from across the Corn Belt. Be sure to check (and understand) your buyers’ policy even if you only suspect your corn could test positive for aflatoxin. If widespread enough, this should support basis for “clean” corn as end users look to lock-up supplies for the year ahead.
