Since 1993, Bob Utterback has been bringing his immense market knowledge to the pages of Farm Journal in the Outlook column. His experiences as a registered commodities representative and the president of Utterback Marketing Services Inc. in New Richmond, Ind., give him plenty of expertise to share with farmers and ranchers. Beginning in 2001, he also took his wisdom to the web by providing regular market commentary to his blog, Outlook Today, on www.agweb.com.
Bob has considerable understanding of the farm production area. Born and reared on a farm in central Indiana, he learned at an early age the value of hard work and experienced firsthand many of the problems associated with farming.
Bob earned his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in agricultural business management with a minor in agronomy. At Oregon State University, he received his master’s degree in agricultural and resource economics with a minor in business management.
His first major employer after graduating was the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service, as an Area Farm Management Specialist. Following that position, he was the Hog Market Analyst for AgriVisor, Inc., a division of Illinois Farm Bureau. He has also served as the Chief Market Analyst at Top Farmer and Farm Futures magazines. He became a broker in 1990 and established his own brokerage office shortly thereafter.
