Branstad Shoots Down Rumors Trump Will Change RFS

He said that the proposed change regarding the blending point of obligation would be impractical.

There is no truth to rumors President Donald Trump plans to alter procedures for the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS), Terry Branstad Iowa Governor and Trump’s pick to serve as ambassador to China, said during his weekly news conference today. “I know the rumors and I know who is involved in it and I can tell you they’re not true,” Branstad told reporters this morning, adding that “I’ve been assured about that by a lot of people.”

Last week rumors surfaced that the Trump administration was altering the point of obligation regarding blending requirements under the RFS from refiners to blenders, as pushed by Carl Icahn, a special adviser to Trump and the majority stakeholder of CVR Energy Inc.

Branstad went on to detail that “It would be much more difficult to enforce the Renewable Fuels Standards if you had to deal with all the retailers in the nation rather than the people that are distributing the fuel. That’s the reason why, practically, it doesn’t make sense and that’s the reason why it was shot down real quick when the rumor surfaced.”
