National Beef cuts back production

National Beef Packing Company LLC announced in a press release that it is cutting production lines from 40 hours a week to between 32 hours and 36 hours a week at its Kansas packing plants in Liberal and Dodge City.

The reduction will cut slaughtering operations to between 10,000 and 15,000 head of cattle weekly. National Beef COO Tim Klein says the company’s decision to reduce hours is driven by unfavorable market conditions resulting in unprecedented losses.

Producer-owned National Beef is the nation’s fourth-largest beef processor, processing about 12 percent of the U.S. beef sold domestically and overseas.
