October Culling Picks Up

USDA reported Friday that 245,000 dairy cows were sent to slaughter in October.

USDA reported Friday that 245,000 dairy cows were sent to hamburger heaven in October, a 12% jump in culling over October 2006. The number also represents a 45,000 head increase over September of 2007.

For the year, dairy cow culling is running 152,000 head higher than last year to this point. That’s also about 8% ahead of last year’s numbers.
