Heifer International, Farm Journal’s premier charity partner for Farmers Feeding the World, announced today the appointment of Pierre U. Ferrari as chief executive officer. He succeeds long-time Heifer CEO and 2010 World Food Prize laureate Jo Luck, who retired earlier this year.

“We congratulate both Mr. Ferrari and Heifer International on the news,” said Andy Weber, chairman of the Farm Journal Foundation. “We look forward to working with Mr. Ferrari through Heifer International’s partnership with Farmers Feeding the World.”
According to today’s press release from Heifer International, Ferrari, was born in Africa in 1950 and brings more than 40 years of business experience, including large consumer package goods organizations such as Coca-Cola USA and socially-oriented organizations like CARE and the Small Enterprise Assistance Fund.
In announcing his appointment, Ferrari recognized he joins the Heifer organization and the global effort to fight hunger at a time when there is great urgency to end poverty.
“Given my background and my birth in Africa, having seen destitution and poverty, not just in Africa, but in South America and Asia, the global human issue of deep poverty and extreme hunger is something that is close to my heart,” Ferrari said on Heifer.org. “I’m deeply grateful that I’m here and have this opportunity to serve this organization.”
Ferrari serves on the board and is former chair of Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream, director of the Small Enterprise Assistance Fund (SEAF), President of the Hot Fudge Social Fund, Director of Atlanta-based Maji Mazuri, USA, director of external advisory board to the Emory University Center for Ethics, and advisory trustee for Oglethorpe University. He has an MA (Economics) from The University of Cambridge and an MBA from Harvard University.
