Nearly 60 different nematodes can attack corn in North America, says Kurt Jones, technical manager for Syngenta Seed Care. With that many varieties of this troublesome creature crawling around the country, you might want to make sure your corn is protected.
Nematodes cause damage in many ways to corn, such as:
- Chlorosis
- Stunting
- Root damage
- Yield loss
Syngenta’s Avicta Complete Corn is targeted to help control nematodes. It is a combination of Avicta seed treatment nematicide, Cruiser seed treatment insecticide and Apron XL, Maxim XL and Dynasty seed treatment fungicides, and aims to offer protection during germination and stand establishment.
Jones says nematode damage has increased in recent years due to the increase in corn-on-corn planting rotations and reduction of tillage.
Protecting the roots early in the season creates the best payback, Jones says.
