Syngenta Seed Care announced five soybean growers as the winners of the CruiserMaxx® Beans Farmer Swap Sweepstakes. The grand prize winner is Dwight Fickbohm, a grower from Akron, Iowa. In January 2010, he will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Brazil, where he will get a chance to see soybean farming from a whole new perspective.
“I’m interested to see their farming techniques,” said Fickbohm, who farms 900 acres of soybeans on the same land where he grew up. “You always hear a lot about Brazil, at least about their soybeans, and I hope I can bring back some knowledge for my own operation,” he said.
Four additional winners – two growers from the Mid-South and two from the Midwest – also were announced. Roy Cox from Osceola, Ark., and Donnie VandeVen from Saint Joseph, La., were the winners from the Mid-South region. In August and September, Cox and VandeVen visited Iowa and Illinois respectively, to learn how their counterparts in the Midwest grow soybeans. Midwestern winners, Chuck Watts from Columbia, Mo., and Steve Martens from Dexter, Iowa, in turn, visited Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana for a view of soybean farming in the Mid-South. The winners received one-on-one field tours, participated in discussions with fellow growers and experienced some of the regional culture during their four-day trips.
