Machinery Pete highlighted a “smoking hot” farm equipment auction in Illinois as his weekly Pete’s Pick of the Week during his “AgriTalk” radio appearance alongside host Chip Flory. He also shared an update on the results of the Hurricane Helene charity auction in North Carolina.

The Doris Meeker farm estate auction held on Friday in Wausau, Ill., and helmed by Wheeler Auctions and Real Estate took this week’s Pete’s Pick of the Week honor.

“Kirby Fecht, the sales manager there, sent me a video preview last week. I could tell the way Kirby was talking about it, the quality was off the charts,” says Machinery Pete.

Some of the highlights included:

  • A pair of Freightliner FLD 120 day cab semis (pictured top left) with “crazy low hours.” The 1996 model with 25,753 miles went for $82,000 and the 1989 model with 25,359 miles went for $51,000.
  • A 2003 John Deere 8520 tractor (pictured top right) with just under 2,300 operating hours went for $165,000. Machinery Pete says that was the highest auction price on a 8520 for 2024.

  • A 2012 John Deere 8335 RT tractor with tracks (2,262 hours) sold for $210,000, another high-water mark for that model this year.
  • A 2010 John Deere 9670 STS combine with 1,800 operating hours and no header included brought $140,000, which Machinery Pete says is the third highest price that model has fetched at auction this year.
  • A 2013 12-row John Deere 1760 planter went for $45,000. A “very strong” price, according to Machinery Pete.

Upcoming Auction to Watch
Now that the 2024 U.S. presidential election is wrapped up, Machinery Pete says to expect increases in used equipment values as producers and buyers dive back into the used equipment trading market.

Machinery Pete says mark your calendars for Wed., Nov. 13, for the Matejcek Implement Company online auction in Faribault, Minn. There is no reserve sale or buyer fees for that auction, Petersen adds.

“They have five tractors, three loader tractors, a pair of nice Farmall 120Cs – a ‘23 and a ‘22 model – and a ‘21 model Farmall 75C, and then also a ’24 Case IH Maxim 150, plus a couple of Bobcat Toolcats,” he says.

Interesting Used Combine Data
Machinery Pete ran the data on used combine listings currently active at MachineryPete.com.

He found that of the 3,082 used combines listed for auction between zero and five years old:

  • 67% are John Deere models.
  • 19% are Case IH.
  • 10% are Claas.
  • 3% are New Holland.
  • Just under 2% are Gleaner.

North Carolina Charity Auction Update
The Alice Chalmers 8070 front-wheel assist tractor with 9,300 operating hours, donated by Aycock Associates auctioneer Jason Aycock, sold for $23,000 at the auction in Louisburg, N.C. Online donations tacked on nearly $6,000, bringing the total amount raised to $28,900.

“That’s almost $29,000 raised through that Alice 8070, so hats off to Jason Aycock, a great auctioneer down there with a heart for helping his customers,” Petersen says.
