PETA wants to put a permanent banner up in the Arkansas Capitol building after it was approved for the Ten Commandments to be displayed on the Capitol’s grounds. The animal rights group isn’t the only one that wants to be represented: the Satanic Temple wants a statue. PETA’s not leaving their options to just government buildings, the group also would like to replace a stain glass window in the Washington National Cathedral. The window in question features a Confederate flag flying at a camp with generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson in the foreground. PETA would like to see a window “that promotes compassion for all living beings, regardless of race, religion, or species.”

Calgary Stampeded by Animal Rights

An ejection at the Calgary Stampede over an alleged case of animal abuse has rodeo fans up in arms, while animal rights activists want further sanctions. The century-old rodeo disqualified a contestant over livestock mistreatment for the first time ever. Meanwhile, four horses were euthanized after the chuckwagon races and animal rights groups want justice.

Cattle Conquer Kathmandu

The earthquake that ravaged the area around Kathmandu, Nepal has been overrun with cattle. Rather than culling non-productive cows or bull calves, farmers will instead turn them loose. Because cattle are sacred in Hindu religion they can’t be killed. Local governments have been known to gather up stray cattle and sell them at auction, but efforts have been more focused on rebuilding the earthquake damage. This has left cows and bulls to fend for themselves along with the 20,000 stray dogs in Kathmandu.

Feeding Losses Back To Triple Digits

Cattle feeding margins took two steps back last week as cash cattle prices hover around what producers hope are the summer lows.

Feedyard closeouts revealed a $108 per head loss last week, significantly poorer than the previous week’s loss of just $11 on every animal shipped, according to the Sterling Beef Profit Tracker.
