Farmers Share Biological Experiences Through New Mosaic Initiative
Mosaic is introducing a new initiative called Frontier Fields where a select group of farmers will document their experiences with a biological product over the course of a year.
The farmers make up a variety of operation sizes and have varying levels of experience with using biologicals. Each member of the group used a Mosaic product in 2023 through the TotalAcre program and will be trialing a biological fertilizer called BioPath.
“We know there can be some skepticism when it comes to biologicals,” said Matt Sowder, director of field solutions at Mosaic Biosciences. “They are a critical part of moving agriculture forward, but there are questions about when and how they work, and why results can be different year to year. While Mosaic Biosciences continues to dig deeper into the science of biologicals, the farmers in our Frontier Fields initiative will give other farmers the chance to observe what is happening in different fields, some which may have similar soils or growing conditions to their own, and see how biologicals are working. We hope it gives farmers more confidence when they are choosing a biological product in the future.”
The Frontier Fields farmers are:
- Jake Drozd (Michigan)
- Ryan Drozd (Michigan)
- Andrew Focht (Iowa)
- Brooks Reid (Missouri)
- David Schrock (Indiana)
- Granvil Travis (Illinois)
To document the process, the six participants will share blog, photo and video updates on FrontierFields.com. More information on each of the growers is available on this website as well.
The company says they hope highlighting these real experiences will help increase confidence and start more conversations around biological products.
“Mosaic Biosciences is excited to bring Frontier Fields to farmers around the country,” Sowder said. “We know farmers care about what they put in the ground and use on their crops, but it also has to bring value. What better way to show that value than with authentic farmer experiences throughout the year? Together with our trial data platform, TruResponse, we hope to give farmers the objective information they need to make the right decision for their farm.”
