“When applying lime and fertilizer, it depends what fertilizer you’re applying,” Bauer says. “With potash, there is no problem. But there are concerns with phosphorus and lime at the same time.”
Bauer explains that phosphorus has negative charged ions, and lime has positive charged ions, so there is the potential for fixation.
“Ideally, there would be a rain in between applications. Another tip is if you can no longer see granules, you can go ahead and apply the lime. Also, the finer the lime, the greater the risk. And the heavier the residue in the field, the greater the risk for fixation.”
