With Soybean Cyst Nematode (SCN) earning the title of the costliest pest in the U.S. for soybeans, BASF has created a new website, SCNFields.com, dedicated to helping growers manage risk against it.

“Soybean Cyst Nematode is the leading cause of soybean yield loss in the United States, costing growers over 100 million bushels of yield and an estimated $1.5 billion in yield annually,” said Troy Bauer, BASF senior field technical representative, seed treatments. “Farmers need to be testing their fields and ensuring SCN isn’t becoming a problem without them even realizing it. SCNFields.com will allow growers access to valuable soil sampling data and help them build a plan to protect yield from this devastating threat.”

The site has compiled a database of 4,000 SCN samples from across the country. Through an interactive map, users can view the average SCN egg count and percent of samples at damaging levels for their area.

The map also categorizes the samples by color – ranging from yellow for low counts to dark red for very high counts – and gets as specific as county-level.

BASF says the tool will help growers know if they need to take steps now to manage the threat of SCN and allow them to track any nearby risks.
