There was buzz about this tractor.

I’m talking about the 1973 John Deere 6030 Standard, non turbo, open station tractor (1 of only 45 made) sold yesterday on a farm auction in Wilson, KS by our good friends at Carr Auction & Real Estate (http://www.carrauction.com). It was a “1 owner” tractor, had only 5,873 hours on it. Here’s a picture of it:

It sold for $59,500.

That is the 2nd highest auction sale price ever on a John Deere 6030. The only higher auction price is $64,000 for restored 1972 open station Standard 6030 sold on a 6/28/14 collector auction in Bedford, IA by Polk Auction. Here’s a pic of that beauty:

Of course John Deere 6030’s, along with IHC 1206’s and Allis Chalmers D21’s, have been sort of the poster child for what I started calling back in 2008 “The New Collector Tractors”...muscle tractors from the late 1960’s into the mid 1970’s. Good condition original tractors and beautifully restored tractors that fall into this category have been and remain in high demand. Toss in any sort of “rareness” to one of these tractors and, well...

$59,500.

“I knew it was a good tractor,” said Jim Froetschner with Carr Auction & Real Estate. “The online bid the night before the sale was up to $30,000. I figured if we got $40,000 we’d be doing good. Folks were saying it would bring anywhere from $30,000 to $60,000.”

“The buyer was at the sale. He’s working in Texas, but from Illinois. The tractor will head back to Illinois.”
