1964 John Deere 4020 Sold Saturday on Kentucky Auction For 3rd Highest Price

Usually the eye popping auction sale prices on John Deere 4020 tractors are on 1972 or 1971 models.

But not always.

Saturday (October 21, 2017) on a farm auction in Mt. Washington, KY, the 1964 model John Deere 4020 pictured below sold for $16,000 on a sale by my good friends at Jeff Boston Auction Service (http://www.bostoncentury.com). It was a diesel, power shift, had only 3,643 original hours, canopy and narrow front:

Of course Deere made the iconic 4020 model from 1964 - 1972. So how high is $16,000 for a 1964 model? Very high. In fact, $16,000 is tied for the 2nd highest auction sale price ever on a non “High Crop” 1964 model 4020. Interesting to note I think how 4 of the top 10 highest auction sale prices on 1964 model 4020’s have come so far here in 2017, including the record price of $25,500 paid on a June 10, 2017 farm auction in Ashkum, IL by Sullivan Auctioneers (http://www.sullivanauctioneers.com). For perspective sake, so far here in 2017 the average auction price on a 1964 John Deere 4020 is $9,345, up from last year’s average auction price of $6,213. 10 years ago (2007) the average auction sale price on 1964 model John Deere 4020 tractors was $7,240.
