Today our guy Rick set a new record auction sale price on a John Deere 4850 by selling a very sweet 1984 model 4850 with only 3,027 hours for $61,500 on a farm auction in Bradford, IL. Here’s a picture:
The previous record high auction sale price on a John Deere 4850 (made 1983 - 1988) was $53,000, all the way back on an August 16, 2006 farm auction in Garden City, KS for a 1988 model 2WD 4850 with 2,730 hours. Guess who sold the 3rd highest ever 4850? Yep, our guy Rick “Mr. 4850" Rediger...$52,500 for a 1984 model 4850 with 3,725 hours on a March 10, 2008 farm auction in Mendota, IL. Turns out Rick Rediger has sold 3 of the Top 10 highest selling John Deere 4850’s ever. Here’s the Top 10:

More proof here of a trend that appears only to be picking up speed...increasing buyer demand for the nicest condition, low hour tractors with bit of age on them. Yes, even in a challenging ag economy like we’re in now. In fact, this trend very likely an offshoot of this tough ag economy I think.

When things are tough and dollars are stretched, more emphasis on finding and acquiring very best condition used equipment. As “Mr. 4850" Rick Rediger texted me today after the sale...."Still cheap power compared to $200,000 plus for new.”
