This has become a VERY common theme the past 3-4 weeks...very nice condition older tractor up for sale, super strong bidding. Result is a very strong sale price.
Today (July 13, 2017) the scene was an eastern Saskatchewan farm auction by my friends at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers (http://www.rbauction.com) where they sold this sharp 1992 Case IH 7140 tractor with 4,327 hours:
It sold for $82,000 CAD, which equates to $63,468 U.S. today. That makes this the 8th highest auction sale price I’ve seen on a Case IH 7140. Here’s a look at the 10 highest auction prices ever on 7140’s:

The 1992 model 7140 sold today on the Saskatchewan farm auction for $63,468 is approaching the 10th very nice condition older model (20-30 plus years old) I’ve seen sold very high at auctions all over North America the last 3-4 weeks. As Machinery Pete Twitter follower Daniel K. put it the other day...
“Old is the new new.”
Bingo.
If some age on it and in very nice condition with reasonable to low hours, those tractors are currently RED HOT. Honestly I don’t see this trend slowing down any time soon. Seems only to be picking up speed actually.
But of course the super nice condition ones are just a part of the story. Not all 20-30 plus year old tractors are mint. Not by a long shot. I’ve been seeing sliding auction sale prices on average to rough condition used tractors for a while now. Probably no change coming to that trend either.
