Ernie amassed quite an amazing collector of John Deere tractors, including (7) model 4000’s, which sold today (July 28, 2019) on his estate auction in New Vienna, IA. The sale today was by Kramer Auction Service (http://www.kramersales.com).
The tractor folks were really talking about leading up to sale day was Ernie’s very rare 1972 John Deere 4000 Gas, Power Shift, 1 of only 9 ever made by Deere in that configuration. Here’s a picture of it:

It sold for $64,500.
If you’re keeping score, that is the 3rd highest auction price ever on a John Deere 4000. The record highest price 4000 at auction remains the 1971 model 4000 Gas/Power Shift sold for $82,500 (with cab) on a 6/27/15 farm auction in Corcoran, MN, a sale by Aumann Auctions, Inc.
